Sunshine Kids Club Camp

August 14, 2009
Dear Danielle (and the entire Staff of Sunshine Kids Camp),

This letter is being written to express the wonderful experience that both my children and we, as parents, had with your summer camp. This is, by far, the best camp we have ever attended.

Each morning all three of my children looked forward to getting up and out as quickly as possible to experience the new adventures that were scheduled for that day. Being bored was never discussed. There was such a wide variety of activities that were offered. With the schedules changing weekly it gave them something to look forward to each Monday morning as they checked the board to see what was in store for their week.

The peace of mind as a parent that all three children were having the time of their lives, meeting new friends, experienceing new activities, and were safe and nurtured was a great comfort.

Your Directors, Counselors, Staff, etc. are extremely caring towards the children and always had time to speak to a parent when necessary. I always felt welcome by everyone when I came to pick up or just to watch what was going on.

L., my oldest child, enjoyed receiving her service hours for assisting the Counselors and Directors with different activities. The Zip Line was great fun for her. K., my middle child, really loved the skate park but did not spend all his time there. He wanted to try new things and gain the entire camp experience. He also really enjoyed the Zip Line each week. A., my youngest, really loved her couselors and the life guards. Horseback riding was the highlight of her summer.

I have to give everyone at the camp the highest praise with how emergency situations were handled. The day there were tornado warnings in Central Carroll County I arrived to pick up. It was quickly stated we were under the tornado warnings and no children were able to walk to the front until it had expired. I was able to go back to the building where the children were watching movies and still having great fun. The control everyone had with this situation was outstanding. (By the way, this tornado went through our front yard. It was a real threat.)

We all look forward to another great camp year in the summer of 2010.

Best regards,
Laura Manspeaker

(An expert opinion: a 7-year-old's testimonial!)
If you want to have some fun this summer, come to Sunshine Kids Camp! Every day, you will do about four or five physical activities, not counting walking to all of them. By the end of the summer, you will be in very good shape.

There is at least one activity to please everyone. Some of the activities are BMX, rock wall, swimming in the giant pool, jousting (not with real horses), dodge ball, kick ball, rollerblading, scootering, Moon Bounce, and paint ball. My favorite is BMX.

But if that isn’t a good enough reason for you, how about the Snack Shack? They sell lots of candy and soda there. They also sell snowballs and soft pretzels. Just ask your counselor if you can go to Snack Shack and they might let you, or they might not.

Another cool activity is the cook out every Friday. You can have a hot dog or a hamburger. They have lots of food to go with it, like Chips Ahoy or potato chips. Fridays are fun at camp because they are really relaxed. On Fridays, you also get to watch special presentations at the stage, like dancers, a magician, or a scientist with science experiments.

Probably the best reason of all to come to camp is that, if you don’t go, you’ll have a very boring summer and no fun. So if you want to join the fun this summer, come to Sunshine Kids Camp!

Dear Danielle,

A special Thank You needs to be passed along to Ms. April.

A., my youngest child and in the Kindergarten group, has separation anxiety when I drop off in the morning. She took a real special liking to Ms. April. Every morning when we arrived at 8:00 she looked forward to "hanging out" with Ms. April at the Jumbo, until they broke into their groups. No tears, no clinging. She was happy to be at camp all day.

Ms. April always acknowledged and showed A. she was excited to see her each morning. This made A. feel important. Ms. April seemed to understand my situation. This made life a lot easier for me as I headed to work. I knew A. was happy and wanted to be at Sunshine Kids Camp.

Thank you again for a wonderful experience!

Dear Danielle:
I wanted to take the opportunity to personally thank you for a wonderful and rewarding summer experience for my son, Josh Squires. The camp truly exceeded all of our expectations! You and your Staff have completely gone out of your way to make sure that everything was perfect! The structure and organization of Sunshine Kids Club is second to none.

I also want to commend the Sunshine Kids Club Directors, Counselors and Staff on their professionalism and sincere caring for our children. The interaction and positive words of encouragement has made this summer a very memorable experience. Josh is already looking forward to attending camp again next summer.

I want to pass along a great big "thank you" to Chaz Smith. During this summer, Chaz has proven to be very versatile...Director, Van Driver, Babysitter, and last but not least, Guardian Angel! Chaz is dependable and reliable, proving to be a positive role model for our children. I can't say enough great things about him!

Our experience has been such a positive one, that we have enrolled Josh in Sunshine Kids Club before and after school program for the 2005 — 2006 school year. With the high caliber of individuals that you have employed, I know that I have made the right decision. Thanks again!

Sincerely,

Wendy Squires

Re: Nicholas F. Dull

Dear Danielle,
I wanted to express my gratitude towards the time, energy and patience that you and your staff have demonstrated towards my son, Nicholas through out this past summer. Everyone has been so wonderful and Nicholas has made so many buddies. He comes home smiling everyday :o) From what I have heard, Chas has really stood out and stepped up to the plate being the one to help Nicholas out on occasions when he was in need of some "down time" or feeling some higher levels of frustration and/or anxiety. Chas has been his "rock" so many times and I appreciate the trust and comfort that Nicholas has found with him. I can not thank him enough. He truly has a gift and talent with the kids and you are fortunate to have someone like him on your team. But I do not want to leave out all of the others that have also played a big part in Nicholas's success this summer such as Corey, Courtney, Mike and Robbie and please forgive me if I have left anyone out. You have many talented counselors and support staff.

What you and your staff actually have done is to allow a child who has some unfortunate emotion/learning challenges in his life, to have a great time, to be a kid just like everyone else, to smile, laugh and have wonderful memories of the summer. Your camp has allowed him to feel as if he is just like everyone else and has provided confidence and learning experiences that are extremely valuable. Most standard camps and centers would not allow nor provide such an opportunity to a child with such challenges. I cannot thank you all enough. Overall, I would hope that Nicholas did extremely well this summer and in comparison to last year.

I hope the remainder of your summer is a safe and happy one.
Sincerely,

Re: Nicholas Dull – last day is today, August 8th

Dear Chas (please forgive me if I have misspelled your name),

I wanted to thank you sincerely for all that you have done for Nicholas this past summer. You have had such a wonderful impact on my son and have helped him through many difficult situations. Your patience and how you interact with these kids is amazing and your passion for helping them to make good choices and to be successful shines through even more.

Nicholas, despite his emotional and learning challenges, has been able to interact with all kids, laugh, smile and have fun thanks to you and the staff at Sunshine. I cannot thank you enough as he will cherish these memories always. I have also sent a letter to Danielle expressing similar gratitude to all but I know you have played a special role here which deserves a special thank you!

You have and will continue to have a positive impact on my son even beyond summer camp.

Dear Ms. Danielle Fleegle,

Our son has attended Sunshine Kids Club Camp for approximately seven years and it has been a wonderful experience for him over all of those years. He absolutely loves the camp and the staff and is enthusiastic to return each summer. For the last several years, he has served in the role of Support Staff for the camp, which has permitted him to earn approximately 580 hours of community service time. These community service hours count towards the high school graduation community service requirements. Participating in the role of Support Staff has been wonderful for our son in that he has matured and has learned responsibility outside the home. Recently, Joe was awarded a black belt in Ninjitsu (Karate), and he currently helps to train younger students at his marital arts academy. I feel that working as a Support Staffer at the camp has helped him to relate well to younger children.

While being a Support Staffer at the camp, he remains active all day participating in camp activities and assisting the camp counselors in their duties of directing activities such as swimming, sports and arts/crafts. In addition, the camp counselors have served as excellent role models for our son and the other children at Sunshine. Another wonderful thing about Sunshine, is that the majority of the camp counselors return year after year; therefore the children do not have to go through a yearly adjustment to new counselors, as is true of most camps. In addition, Sunshine Kids Club’s counselors and other staff are trained in education in college and/or are actually employed in local school systems as teachers or aids.

I highly recommend Sunshine Kids Club Camp to all families who are looking for a fun and safe place for their children to be during the summer and if they desire to see their children grow in terms of responsibility, I recommend that they work in the role of Support Staff for the camp. Now that our son is older, he would like to have a summer job and would like more than anything to work as a Counselor in Training at Sunshine Kids Club Camp. I think that those years of service as a Support Staffer will be helpful in enabling him to qualify for the job that he would love to hold.

Sincerely,
The Hodge Family
